The falls were flowing strong and the Smith Creek trail was filled with gorgeous wildflowers. Yes, it was a fine day on the trail Monday morning for our hike into Helen. We had an interesting and fun mix of veteran and new AOC hikers. Welcome to Jeff H. on his third hike and Ed on his second hike. The weather was wonderful after all the rain of last week, though you could feel that touch of summer coming in on the latter part of the hike. We hiked at a slower pace as we left Anna Ruby falls as the mountain was still covered in mountain laurel (? - not sure but they were beautiful whatever they were). Indeed, one hiker took a tumble trying to manage looking at the flowers and the trail (no serious injuries though). Five of us stayed in Helen after the hike for lunch at Hoffer's. It's the first time I've done this particular hike, but I will definitely be doing it again.
