What a morning! The fickle weather kept changing every half hour throughout the early morning, with conditions looking worse than they did last night. I was determined to keep the hike active, since it was a special day - - our 11th anniversary of weekly hikes at Island Ford. There was a disappointing drizzle as we began our hike, but by the time we started up the warmup hill, the drizzle stopped and we had no more rain until we reached the parking lot two hours later! Thank you, Bubble!
Suzanne and I were the only two "originals" on the hike today. We participated in the very first Island Ford hike eleven years ago. Doug decided to skip the hike, but he joined us at lunch. He was the third "original" joining our group.
The Renegades revised their usual Thursday hike schedule to coincide with ours since most of the Renegades were regulars on our Thursday morning hikes (until Covid forced them to hike more safely with their exclusive group of guys). The Renegades did their hike while my group did ours, but we joined together after the hike for a short tailgate party before going to the North River Tavern for lunch. Twenty of our combined groups spent a wonderful time at lunch with the Renegades and AOC folks renewing friendships and meeting some new friends.
The AOC has meant a lot to all of the people who hiked at Island Ford this morning . . . especially to me. Thank you all for being such wonderful friends, old and new. ~ Joyce
