Today was an example of why I wait till morning to cancel a hike when the weather looks unstable. It poured last night, but by 10 am, we had sunny skies and no threat of rain. Unfortunately, we did have some very muddy trails, but they improved greatly during our hike. No falls, for which I'm very grateful!

This was Memorial Day, and it was nice to spend it with good friends including one veteran - - Tracy! Thanks to him and all the other soldiers who have served to allow us to enjoy a day like today.

I'll have to say that Barbara made today's hike most interesting. Before the hike even started, she dropped her pants to show us the bruises on her legs from a recent fall. Drew quickly made an about-face, clearly taken aback by the scene in front of him! Barbara's "entertainment" was especially appreciated at our picnic lunch, where she was coaxed into telling a very stimulating tale about her recent experience on a cattle ranch in South America.

We took the whole two and a half hours for our hike today, clocking in between 6-6.8 miles, depending on the GPS you were using. We covered most of the trails and were grateful to pass only a few bikers today. There were also several runners out today, which was amazing considering how slippery the trails were.

After the hike, seven of the group stayed for a picnic lunch. Sue was so thoughtful to bring table-cloths to brighten the table. We each brought our own lunches but shared some mixed nuts, Rice Krispy treats, and brownies. We had a really good time together, making it a memorable Memorial Day. ~ Joyce
