Our fabulous group of seven hikers enjoyed three teriffic hikes in the Smokies over the long July 4th weekend! On July 4, we hiked for 17 miles to the top of Mount Sterling, stopping at Mouse Creek Falls on the way. We enjoyed fabulous views from the tower atop Sterling. We climbed 4,700 feet to get our D6, and ended the day with sparklers provided by Kelly to celebrate Independence Day! The next day we hiked 13 miles to summit Mount Cammerer, climbing 3,200 feet to get a D5. On Sunday we hiked 8 miles to Hen Wallow Falls and Greenbrier Creek on the Gabes Mountain Trail, climbing 1,700 feet to give our legs a rest while enjoying a beautiful trail that followed and crossed multiple creeks. Deema and I provided home cooked meals to reward our hard work and get us back on the trail with renewed strength each day. Despite the challenge of starting the series with a D6 hike, everyone had a great time and was glad they came!
