We had 12 hikers on our fun, but hot, hike at Island Ford CRNRA. We started at the Island Ferry parking lot and hiked the Lollipop Trail, which had a bunch of blow downs that we had to go over, under and around to get through. Then continued down to the other end of the park and around Hewlett Pond before taking a quick break at the Visitor Center. Unfortunately, the rumor was started that alleged a new Tiki Bar at the far end of Hewlett Pond. It turned out to be unfounded. We kept looking for it on the return trip to the parking lot. We came across a box turtle in the trail and Russ gave it a drink of water. The turtle appeared to be unimpressed.
We covered 6.5 miles with 620 feet of elevation in 2 1/2 hours. We took extra water breaks and slowed the pace down a bit so we could be more comfortable, but still averaged 2.6 mph. Job well done folks.
We had 1 Newbie on the hike today. We welcomed Jennifer on her 7th AOC hike. I hope she enjoyed it and will come back for many, many more. We also had a couple of Drewbies. Edward was on his 3rd hike with me and Mary was on her 9th. Welcome to you both and thank you for continuing to hike with me.
A big thank you to Joyce for sending the the photos she took on the hike. You can view them by clicking the album icon above.
