Write Up:
Great day for an urban hike! We met near the Downwind Restaurant and Lounge in the lawn area at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. From there, we hiked around the airport grounds and then walked across the street through a lovely neighborhood.
Once we passed through the neighborhood, we hiked through Ashford Forest Preserve Park -- a fantastic local park!
Once we left the park, we hiked a short distance along Clairmont Road to the 57th Fighter Group Restaurant next to the DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. We wandered the grounds there (location is considered an iconic Atlanta landmark ) and paused our hike for a few minutes to take a few photos.
We then retraced our steps and returned to the airport. After our hike, ten of us met for lunch at the Downwind Restaurant which is a great place to watch planes take off and land at the airport. Highly recommend this place!
We had a great day and were able to avoid rain!
