We had 10 determined hikers at Bowmans Island this morning. First, we knew it was going to start out cold. It was 25 degrees at hike time this morning. Then, early Tuesday morning I received the news that the Lower Pool park was closed, and the closed gate made the Bowmans Island Trailhead innaccesible. I sent out an email early Tuesday to tell everybody I was changing our starting point to the Trout Hatchery Trailhead at the southern end of the park. We started out chilly, but warmed up quickly and before we had hiked 2 miles, outer layers started coming off.  It was a beautiful, sunny day that ended up being a perfect day for a hike. My GPS says we hike 6.5 miles with 512 feet of elevation in 2 1/2 hours. We saw a blue heron across the river, and a buck just off the trail a ways.
