Write Up:

What a surprise, we got PERMITS!

Weather was great, dry, cloudy, 45 degrees.

We arrived at 9:55am, the 30 minutes permit "class" started at 10.

We learned that a typical hike down to the gorge includes 2 water crossings but we were not prepared and the water temp was extremely cold so we opted to skip getting wet feet.

We went from the visitor center to the south rim trail, and scrambled boulders all the way down to Bridal Vail Falls.

The scramble down was 0.5 miles 800ft elevation loss (according to the park ranger).

We scrambled the boulders back up 0.5 miles 800ft elevation gain and headed back for lunch at the picnic tables by the visitor center.

The scrambling was really hard, and lots of fun at the same time!

Joni had little CFA gifts for us, thank you!!

We celebrated Elizabeth completing 200 hikes.

4 of us decided to take on the 600ish steps stairs to the suspension bridge and Hurricane Falls.

We went down the stairs from Overlook #2 down to the bridge, it was too sturdy to be a fun bridge crossing, then went further down to Hurricane Falls platform, took some more pics, and headed back up 568 steps to the south rim trail, and walked back to the visitor center.

Thank you all for sharing this truly exploratory trip with me, it was a lot of fun.

This is the link to our photos, I tried to capture how steep the scrambling section was but wasn't very successful. Thanks Lynn and Trish for taking the good ones!
