We met at the picnic area near the Visitor Center parking lot. To our surprise Stilesboro Road was open. It was still closed Friday at 11 when I left a meeting at the park. We walked from the Visitor Center up Kennesaw Mountain Road to the intersection of the Kennesaw Mountain Trail. Here we did a review of the day’s work and a safety brief. From here we walked about a quarter of a mile to the worksite on Little Kennesaw, this time carrying our tools. We were joined by 9 high school students and 3 other adult volunteers. We split into 2 groups. Group one rebuilt a stone step going up with Kerstin. She was under instruction learning how to build stone steps. I took the second group with Joyce and John further up the mountain to a point where erosion was threatening an earthwork. We debermed an area above the earthwork routing the water through a heavy growth area. Upon completion we move to a step blow the first group and replaced part of a missing step, then debermed three spots on the trail before it started up Kennesaw Mountain and we walked back down the mountain.
