This is the earliest I have led this hike and warned everyone that our chances of getting blueberries would be low to zero. I really enjoyed being WRONG! We would end up seeing more blueberries than the past four trips combined. We saw a few after crossing the creek that we didn’t get wet crossing due to the low water level. After passing the shelter we came across a large patch of blueberries. Due to the heat and humidity, we decided to pick them on the way back. We continued to see a few blueberries as we hiked. Then we came across another large patch. Upon arriving at the waterfalls, we found a few kids there, thus we had the whole falls to ourselves. We decided to cut the hour scheduled for swimming to 40 minutes so that we could go pick blueberries. We stopped at the first large patch and picked blueberries for 25 minutes, walked for about half an hour and stopped at another larger patch and picked blueberries for 15 minutes. We wanted to pick longer but we were not used to bending over and were getting tired. I know that I ate over 70 blueberries, Marina said she ate over 100, and the rest of the group each ate a lot of blueberries in addition to what we picked. Even with the blueberries we ate and picked we left 100s.
Next year I plan on having this event once again on the first Saturday of June.
Thanks to Rahael for joining us for her fourth first AOC event and Tristan for joining us on his sixth event.
