The Fearsome Foursome decided to hike regardless of what Mother Nature would throw at us --- as it turned out nothing. We had an overcast morning with a light wind and 70-degree temperature. My intrepid AOC hikes did introductions in the Powers Island parking lot. We headed down the Powers Island Trail, did the loop up the hill and continued on the trail until it got so muddy we could not safely continue. We returned by the loop by the river, stopped briefly at the raft launch, and headed across the river. We did a quick detour taking the trail under I285 so that those on the hike could see the trail goes to Arkes Mill Road. We then followed the road in a clockwise direction. As we passed the swampy area we saw several turtles. One snapping turtle we estimated at between 12” and 16”, if we were fishing it would have been at least 36”. It moved too fast for me to get its picture. We continued past the Columns Drive parking lot and returned to the Interstate North parking lot and crossed the river again. Alternate opening: The Fearsome Foursome braved flash floods over a100 miles away and lighting over 400 miles away to complete this hike.
