The day began with a bit of apprehension, as the temperature already felt quite warm while we were gathering by the visitor center. However, we soon found ourselves enjoying well-shaded trails, and the breeze picked up nicely as we hiked for miles near the lake. I think we all felt a burst of energy up to mile 7, but then the heat began to catch up with us. Despite this, we managed to hike 9.2 miles in an excellent average speed of 3.4 mph. I would have slowed down if I felt it was necessary, but everyone kept up great and the group stayed together.
The highlight was Christina’s cooler, filled with cherry tomatoes and cucumber from her garden to share with us all. Thanks, Christina!
