My prediction of no-rain was wrong this morning. A sudden pop-up thunderstorm passed right over us at 10 am, causing us to have to delay the hike till 10:30. Before deciding to wait out the storm, I checked with members about extending the time for the hike, and all but one were able to wait.
Oh, was this was a very hot, humid, sweaty hike. The rain stopped, but it left plenty of water on the trees, bushes and trail to cause a steamy hike for two hours. It zapped our energy for sure, but we kept the pace moderate so everyone stayed together.
We saw some chanterelle mushrooms, a turtle, a couple of deer, and a sinister, moldy looking root system on a tree by the trail.
It was great to see Scott after many, many months, as well as Jennifer and Neil whom I hadn't seen since before I left for DC 5 months ago. A hike full of vets today who were tough and ready to face challenges.
Thanks to Lee and Mike for the photos they added to the album. ~ Joyce
