We parked at the parking lot next to the Illinois Monument. We had 94 JROTC students and instructors from Allatoona and Hillgrove High Schools plus 6 adult volunteers for 100 volunteers today. Per the Friends of KMNBP website we were expecting about 50 volunteers and per the directions given to me by the park, I am not turn down any volunteers that medically meets the requirements for the assigned project.

We split into two groups. Group one led by Doanld, with Curt, and Maddux assisting, consisting of the Allatoona JROTC plus a couple of the adult volunteers performed cyclic (annual) maintenance on the service roads around the Illinois Monument. Group two was with me consisting of the Highgrove JROTC and the remaining adults. We went to the new bridge across John Ward Creek. At this point I split my group into two sections. One section led Kirsten with Pam assisting and AOC members Joyce and Marie-Felixe continued the work started by Air Force recruits on 7/30 placing rip rap (rocks) along the new trail to the bridge to prevent erosion. I led the second section with Mark assisting and John from the AOC performing cyclic maintenance on the trail going about a third of a mile past the bridge. Upon completion we returned to the bridge and continued to perform cyclic maintenance on the service roads going back toward the Illinois Monument.
