Wow, what a hike...we had beautiful day to start off...sunny and deep blue skies although a cold day even for December.  The forecast was for highs not getting out of the 20s and wind chills in the single digits but we dressed appropriately and were pretty cozy for the most part.

We started at Andrews Cove with a few inches of snow and as we hiked higher and higher of course the snow became deeper and deeper.  Just before Tray Gap, there were drifts well over 18" tall that we walked through...lots of fun and definitely a rare treat for GA.

As we neared the top of Tray Mtn, there was more of that rime ice on the trees which gave it a beautiful winter wonderland feel...love that white contrasted with the blue sky.  We expected to get hit by by high winds at the top but it was surprisingly very peaceful and quiet there ...not windy at all.

We hiked down the other side and to the AT shelter where we took a long break...changed out of some wet socks and had a good lunch.  Then just headed back out and took our time...it was mostly .we finished just after sunset.  But a beautiful day with a very hearty little group...hope we get to do another one like this before Spring arrives.
