Sat, Mar 12 2011 - Providence Canyon Backpacking Trip (View Original Event Details)
|
We had a great weekend backpacking in providence canyon. We managed to grab backcountry site 2 which is by far the largest and most suitable to an AOC group, For future trip leaders 2 and 5 are the only large sites, 6 might be doable but the trail leads right through camp. The others we saw aren’t practical for a large group. Site 2 was great it’s a large expansive site that allows plenty of room between tents.
This was a trip of three miracles. The first was the weather which was pretty much perfect warm (70s) in the day and slightly chilly at night(40’s)
The second miracle was a fallen tree near our campsite and the fact that one of the members brought a razor saw so we did in fact use the entire tree for firewood (while performing trail Maintenance J
The most amazing miracle happened when the group discovered that one of the members had hiked in with a 12 pack of quality beer cooled by dry ice. After a long day of hiking on Sat this might have been the best beer I’ve ever had.
We had a really great group that gelled well, everyone pitched in to gather firewood and took turn at sawing up the tree. There were several old friends on the trip and a few new one who I hope to get to know better. A good time was had by all.
