Tom and I were co-leaders on Jimmy's HOTT (Hike On Thursday & Trivia) event at the Jones Bridge unit of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. We covered 5 miles on some of the loops and spent the majority of our time hiking along the river. We paused several times for photos and socializing and took an extended break in the clearing behind the CRNRA's Education Center (where we saw 5 deer grazing at the edge of the old orchard/pasture). It was a beautiful evening, and spring was in all her glory. We admired a number of wildflowers (like toadshade trillium, mayapples, vetch, rue anemone) and blooming trees (like Eastern redbud and flowering dogwood) along the trail. There were plenty of butterflies flitting about (even the state butterfly - the tiger swallowtail), and the air was filled with birdsong. We saw 3 separate groups of deer and far too many squirrels to count. Seeing the abundance of wildlife - both flora and fauna - was invigorating.

Half of the group continued with the event's second portion - team trivia at ColdBrew's Sports Bar & Grill in Roswell. According to Jimmy, the atmosphere was very family oriented with a lot of children present (perhaps due to spring break). The team did not do very well (they were in last place most of the game), but everyone had fun. They fell short of a last minute comeback - just missing a chance to come in third place. Better luck next time.

Please be sure to check out our photo album from the hike.
