Great day out on the river!  Many dropped and had things come up, but wound up with 11 out on the trail.  Hiked 5 miles at 3.5 mph, pretty hot, not bad under the canopy.  Found a lost dog and called the owner who came down to the lunch spot at the Big Rock and picked up their Jack Russell.  After lunch, hit the surf! [see photo album ; )]  Though I’ve been here over ten times, I’d never decided to swim and scramble downstream to the jumping rock.  So, we headed out right after eating!  No cramps fortunately.  Mark lead the way as we butted it down the not so forgiving rock bed of the Cartecay.  We body surfed down many rapids, even one class 2 four foot fall.  Probably not the best idea, but half of us did it anyway.  Crazy ride.  Only lost one pair of cheap sunglasses, and rescued a shoe and a baseball hat from sure doom.  Laying in the river, floating, sitting in the current, looking back upstream at the amazing giant pines, it was a great moment.  Everyone had a great time joining with nature.  Water is a powerful force in more ways than one.  It was a good time.  Nice to meet all of you and hope we can do this one again soon after Yosemite next week!
