Write Up:
Too bad more AOCers didn't take advantage of this exciting free event this morning in which we explored the "wilder side" of Piedmont Park.  Our group of nine had perfect partly sunny weather for it, and our expert Audubon Society hosts helped us observe, hear, and identify about 35 different species of gorgeous birds including red-headed woodpeckers, bluebirds, mockingbirds, goldfinches, red-winged blackbirds, cardinals, warblers, grebes and great blue herons. We enjoyed birding in seldom-visited wooded and rugged parts of the Park including its "Trail of the Six Springs" - also along a newly opened section of the Atlanta "Beltline."
