What could be more perfect than a group of AOC members (25 of us!) kayaking downstream on the Etowah River in Dawsonville on a sweltering summer day?  Thanks to Lauren's planning and the excellent service of the Appalachian Outfitters, the event went off without a hitch.  The group paddled 9 miles in just over 2 1/2 hours, catching views of beautiful forests, spectacular rock formations, a giant blue heron, and several turtles sunning themselves on the river rocks.  This was a first kayaking event for several of the members who found this portion of the Etowah River to be an easy one to navigate.  No one fell into the water, but several of us had to leave our kayaks to get them off the rocks and into deeper water.  Many thanks to Jack D. and Chris H. for helping us novices with some basic river skills.  We needed the lessons!
