Write Up:

What a fun hike it was. Hot, muggy, sweaty – but great spirit. A special welcome to the (almost) new AOC members Melanie and Tim, and to the brand new member Ericka who joined us for her very first AOC hike.

So, “Where and When do You Wanna Hike” next?  Just let me know and we plan a hike around YOUR schedule.

Oh, before I forget … we also learned where the name “Gold Branch” came from.  Back in the good old Dahlonega-Gold-Rush days the Bonnie & Clyde from Georgia, Peggy-Sue and Bubba, drove away with a sack of gold nuggets they stole in a heist from the biggest Atlanta Bank.  Well, the story goes that Peggy-Sue drove the car with the loot and crashed into a tree in at the, what is known today as the Gold Branch area.  Poor Peggy-Sue and Bubba – they died (bless their hearts) and the gold was given back to the rightful owners. The proof? Just look at the car wreck where Peggy-Sue crashed. Isn’t that proof enough?

See you on another hike soon where we learn more about Atlanta’s history :)
