What a beautiful day and fantastic group for my first solo lead. 11 AOC'ers (not including John's faithful companion, Tucker) began our gradual incline to Standing Indian. After approx 3.25 miles we stopped to take a quick energy snack break at Case Knife Gap, before our steep 0.3 incline from Beech Creek Trail to the AT. After catching our breath, less than a 1/2 mile later and we've made our way along the snowy trail to our overlook, with views that were absolutely phenomenal! We enjoyed our lunch and took in the views and continued along the AT to Deep Gap. Heading south along Deep Gap Trail we were close to the water and had some challenging declines and even a few technical challenges to overcome, but that just made it all the more fun! We all made it back safe and sound and enjoyed a well earned and tasty dinner in Clayton at Mama G's. I think we all found a new favorite hike that we look forward to repeating in the future!
