A robust group set out to celebrate Earth Day by putting our boots to the soil, and Mother Nature cooperated by providing us with perfect weather.  We set off along the gravel path at a brisk pace, and were transported to a lush green wonderland as we turned away from the crowd and across the boardwalk.  Spring has definitely sprung, as evidenced by the yellow, purple, and white wildflowers dotting the trails.  A series of hills in rapid succession got our pulse rates up.  Plenty of roots and rocks kept us on our toes, as did the cyclists who occasionally hurtled up from behind us.

Without hesitation, the fearless group unanimously agreed to venture along an uncharted path.  Hopping nimbly across rocks that seemed to have been perfectly placed across a creek, we were rewarded with a pleasant loop that led us safely back to the familiar trail.  We arrived back at our starting point at 7:45 on the nose - precisely as planned.  A wonderful time was shared by old friends and new acquaintances.  Happy Earth Day to all, and to all a good hike!
