Thank you everybody for a spectacular weekend! I know we're suffering from a drought, but the weather has been superb for backpacking. The trail started off with quite a climb up the AT to the Shuckstack Firetower, but the views were incredibly rewarding, especially down below at Fontana Lake. We ate lunch there and then headed due East along the Lost Cove Trail to the now infamous Lost Cove campsite No. 90. It was a bit crowded there and we had to "settle" for the wooded campsite, but we managed to forage for enough wood to have a pretty good bonfire Saturday evening. The temperatures dropped a bit which was typical for Fall weather, but nothing close to the low 30's that had been predicted. We woke up to sunshine on Sunday morning, ate breakfast, and broke camp around 10:30. The lead pack sprinted for the parking lot and covered about 6 miles in well under 2:00 hours. I've included some pictures from our hike and I've also included some old ones from Spring 2006 so you can contrast the water levels from back then. Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!
