It was a perfect hike. We couldn't have had better weather or a more compatible group of hikers. Elaine had driven all the way from Jacksonville, FL to return to her beloved mountains--she used to hike them in New England--Tracy did her first-ever AOC hike, and old hands David and Steve lent their experience. We made numerous stops to look at the views and to talk to interesting through-hikers. There was Gray Beard "13", 82 years old, a real inspiration to those of us worried about getting old. There was the man who started the Hope scholarship program in GA. We never got his trail name, but it must have been Hope. Then there was Tater who maintains the stretch of trail between the Vista and Deep Gap. He confirmed that we were doing a nice hike, saying he did it once a month! Three of us celebrated the day with a beer in Clayton afterwards.
