Write Up:
This hike has become an annual tradition and this was the fourth year I lead it for the AOC. We left the park and ride at 3 PM and were hiking up Blood Mountain by five o'clock. With over twenty hikers we split up into two groups, letting Lee Harris lead those who wanted to sprint up to the top.

Even the group I lead up went at a good pace and everybody was on the summit of Blood Mountain on this crystal clear day 40 minutes before sunset. Weather conditions can vary greatly in late October, but fortunately it was not windy and only light jackets and hats were needed.

After dinner and little exploring we gathered everyone around 6:40 PM to take their sunset pictures. Thanks to Jon Miner's weather.com website, we found the sunset was exactly 6:47 PM. Right after the sun disappeared from the horizon we gathered our packs, turned on our headlamps and began the quick descent down. We covered the 2 1/2 miles down in less than an hour and by the halfway point we had only moonlight and headlamps too see.
