Write Up:

We had a wonderful time on this walk with Ranger Jerry Hightower and learned much about the fascinating biology, geology and human history of the Chattahoochee River corridor.  Among the strange things we took the  time to study up close were the "Little Brown Jug" variety of wild ginger, bedstraw (with its velcro-like stickiness), and the "catapulting" pollination of mountain laurel flowers.  Turning over occasional logs and rocks rewarded us with a lovely little ring-necked snake and several large beetles.  Everything was incredibly lush and green after the almost record-setting rains we've had lately, and it was nice to have the sun pop out often for a change as advertised in the event title!
