As it turned out, five trip leaders showed up, making this, in Jimmy's words, a five-star hike! What a beautiful day. Great company, fantastic weather, pleasant stretch of the AT. We arrived at the trailhead and geared up. Out came the latest for the well-equipped hiker. Lightweight packs, cool hydration systems? No, no. An impressive array of ankle supports and knee braces. We had dinner in Clayton where else but at the Universal Joint.
