Write Up:

This was a wonderful fall trip, 57miles 3 days with 3 fun AOC hikers and myself.  We had near perfect weather for the entire trip apart from a short hail shower on the Duncan Ridge Trail that was actually kind of fun while all the precipitation was frozen.  We got our miles in despite the short day light hours with the aid of our trusty headlamps each evening, by doing so we had the added benefit of arriving at the shelters with camp fires already roaring. One of the best parts of the trip had to be meeting “Fresh Ground” at Woody Gap, Fresh Ground is an AT hiker who had taken time from work to set up a trail magic cook station for two weeks as south bounders come trickling in. He greeted us with fresh omelets, huge pancakes, and hot dogs served with Kool Aid and Coffee. It was a blessing to enjoy and share in his passion for hikers and the trail. We also got to share some time with Cosmonaut a through hiker readying to complete his journey.  Between the wonderful miles of trail and fantastic views of the leaves from the overlooks we all had a great hike. There are already rumblings of a completing this journey in two days next year :). I leave you with Armin’s comment in a Christopher Walken voice from our final accent of Toonowee Mountain “I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more up hill.”
