On Friday, October 11, six members of the Atlanta Outdoor Club (AOC) set out on a two night, three day backpacking trip to the Savage Gulf Natural Area in central TN. The weather could not have been better. We hiked the north rim of the gulf on our first day and camped near "Hobbs Cabin" that night. The second day took us to the bottom of the gulf along a rocky and treacherous connector trail. Then, it was back up where we hiked an old stagecoach road to our second nights camp at Stage Road. The final day we finished the loop hiking along the south rim. We covered just under 22 miles total. The views along the rim overlooks were spectacular. Evenings were filled with plenty of camaraderie and campfire stories. Thanks to Mother Nature for the wonderful setting and weather and the other AOC'ers for the great company!
