Participants:Joe Connell, Lisa, SusanF, Michael M

Write Up:

Our group was small, but our pleasure was large on this gorgeous autumn morning along the tributaries of the Chattahoochee River.  Despite the parking lot being filled to capacity due to an event at the Visitor's Center, the trails were nearly empty as we soaked in the dappled sunlight and watched the leaves flutter down.

After a brisk hike, we found a boulder to sit upon to add a little bit of culture to our day.  Lisa shared a poem entitled "Autumn Leaves" by 19th century poet Martha Lavinia Hoffman.  Michael regaled us with a personal narrative involving Stephen Spielberg, Oprah, Barack Obama and Queen Elizabeth.  Susan recited a poem, about the wind, remembered from childhood that her father also had learned as a child.  And we welcomed Joe, on his very first hike with the AOC, who told us about John Bartram, the early American botanist, and quoted Bartram describing the beauty of unspoiled nature.

Carpe Diem!
