Write Up:
We arrived at Table Rock State Park around 11:15 and got our permits and a helpful map and guide to the foothills trail. The views of Table Rock were plentyful, but we hoped to make it out there on Sunday. Our weather was ideal, at least on Saturday, as we hiked out of the visitor's area and across several creeks, up, up, and further up as we ascended our way to Bald Rock. There, the views were stunning, looking over a cliff that must be approximately 2000 feet above the valley looking towards Greenville, SC. Some of us bagged Pinnacle Mt., which was a bit of a letdown, because the views from there were limited. We had a rather arduous journey to our campsite and just when we thought everyone had finally made it, we discovered we were missing our favorite canine friend, Hatch. But Jamie and Jessica braved the evening air and hiked back they we came until they came upon and escorted Hatch back to our campsite. Marissa did a great job of maintaining the fire while Andy entertained us. A few of us got up early Sunday morning, before dawn, and set out for Sassafrass, the highest peak in SC. Unfortunately, we were greeted by thick overcast skies and a sprinkling of rain, but not much of a view from the top. Although we were all a little sore and weary from the hike on the previous day, we managed the hike out through rather gloomy skies and a little rain. None of that mattered when we stopped at a Mexican restaurant in Walhalla and enjoyed some real food. Great trip, everybody!
