Lemmy and Bobby at LaberNeuschwastein Castle!Konigsee and St. Batholamew Church and the Fish SmokeryThe perfect Alpine refreshment in the perfect Alpine place, on the perfect Alpine day! From the first bus ride from Munich to Eschenlohe, the week was a remarkable mix of good weather, stunning Alpine views, exciting and beautiful hikes, and wonderful sightseeing opportunities. Local hikes on Saturday, Sunday and Thursday gave us great views and local flavors and sights and smells of the rural areas around town.  The castles and palaces on Monday at Neuschwastein and Linderhof, combined with the Passion Playhouse in Oberammergau, the Wieskirche (crying statue) Abbey wowed us all.  The ridge run from the top of Laber Bergbahn (tram) to the Monastery at Ettal got everyone's hearts going. Picture the trails into Grand Canyon, only green.

The REAL Oktoberfest in Munich after a morning of Segway and walking tours on Wednesday was a dream come true day for many. The local costumes really are common in Bavaria and stunning for both men and women.

Friday to Salzburg for a boat ride on the Konigsee in stunning wooden electric boats, to hear the echoes of the captain's trumpet off the rock walls and fun and smoked fish at the Frischerei before the ride back to the dock.  In the afternoon we walked the old town of Salzburg , Austria and across the "heart lock" bridge to visit Mozart homes and the Sound of Music Castle, Mirabell.

Finally on Saturday, the most incredible day. Starting sat the Olympikstadia of Hitler in 1936, we walked up and down the Partnachklamm, a Bavarian slot canyon, running wild with the river through it. One of our many beers of the week was enjoyed at the apex of the hike. Lunch was had at the yodeling brother's Gasthof before we spent an afternoon in Garmisch shopping and enjoying the beautiful sights, sounds and smells of a Bavarian Saturday afternoon. We saw a Bavarian wedding, accordion and bells performers, a rock band and everyone enjoying the day under the Peaks of the Zugspitze.

Hiking a little under 40 miles during the week gave us all great thirst and hunger for the local dishes and brews.  Alte Wirt
