Write Up:
Despite some light rains Saturday morning, we had full crowd for our hike, eightenn people. This was particularly impressive since everyone other than the hike leader had been on fewer than five AOC events. By the time we gathered at the Visitors Center near the entrance of Amicalola Falls at 10 AM the rain had pretty much stopped. We hiked the 0.6 mile Creek Trail and 1.0 Mt. Laurel trail. Somewhat by accident, three of the hikers decided to take an alternate route to the top of the fall on these trails. After finishing these two trails we then climbed the 600 plus steps of the Base of the Falls Trail. Since most of the hikers were new to this park, many people were taking pictures of the 750 foot or so Amicalola Falls. At the top of the falls we meet up with the three hikers who took the alternate route to the top. After resting a few minutes we then began the ascent down on the Appalachian Trail Approach back to the Visitors Center. We then departed back to Atlanta.
