Our group of five had great weather today for our fifteen mile hike of the Coosa Backcountry Trail, with a side trip to Coosa Bald for lunch in the sun! With the leaves off of the trees we had views of the mountains throughout our trip. For those who say that this isn't a scenic hike, they should try it in the late fall or winter. Mountains in every direction!

The recent rains had filled the many creeks and waterfalls to capacity, so we had lots of small water crossings and needed to be more creative than last time in finding our way across the one larger creek where a bridge had been washed away. Between rock-hopping, log-balancing and wading, everyone eventually made it safe and dry to the far side.

We took our time throughout the hike, finishing in about six and a half hours (not including our lunch break) with Allston leading and Larry sweeping, and everyone stopping periodically to take breaks and make sure we were all staying together. Everyone did a great job and was excited to finish by the time we got back to Vogel State Park. Four of us celebrated by grabbing a well-deserved dinner at Shenanigan's in Dahlonega afterwards.

Thanks to the whole group who made this a fun hike today, and special congratulations to both Sue and Heidi on their first time completing the Coosa Trail!
