Itinerary:
This will be an open forum discussion on the gear needed to get started into single day and short multi-day backpacking events. At 10:00 am sharp information will be passed out, different gear will be shown, ideas of equipment, how to keep cost down and other ideas will be discussed. This class will be geared for the true beginner. I ask you to be a fit beginner for this specific class, this will allow those who are going this season to be ready. More classes will come for those that are contemplating the general idea. You wont expect to walk away from this ready to hit the trail on your own, or even know exactly what you need. What you will have is information on basic needs, different types of equipment, what questions to ask when you are going to purchase, how to know if somthing will work for you. Please come flexible with time. A booklet will be handed out that I put together while getting back into backpacking. The information covers questions I researched. This research was to try and get the best items for the money I spent. This booklet must be returned, so bring paper and pen for notes. We may also walk to the mill and back depending on the time.

Required Items to Bring:
Please wear normal hiking clothes. Part of the discussion will cover attire, so this is a good time to wear what you have.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Hiking clothes
Hiking boots
A bottle of water
A snack
Something to write with

How to Get There:
Event Directions: from Atlanta: Take 20 west (At the location of 285W and I-20 travel 6.4mi) Exit Thorton Road (exit 44) Turn Left on to Thorton Road (travel 2000 feet) Turn right onto Blairs Bridge Rd / S Blairs Bridge Rd (There will be a large car dealership on your RT) (travel .5 mi) Bear left onto Lynch Rd (travel 1.5 mi.) Turn left onto Mt Vernon Rd (travel .6 mi) Turn left onto Factory Shoals Rd (travel 1.1 mi) Do not confuse our meeting area with the small parking area with the dock, or the larger parking area with the bait house and docks. Both of these parking areas you will pass to find Factory Shoals Rd. If the directions seem off, you have likely gotten off the path. Other Directions may have you take the Lee Rd exit. This is fine, but make sure you arrive at the "visitor or welcome Center".
