Itinerary:

This is a combo-hike . . .  both a "By the Book" series and a "No-Excuses" series event.

First, it's a "By the Book" hike because it was inspired by Jonah McDonald's recently published guidebook, Hiking Atlanta's Hidden Forests.  Although he "cut his hiking teeth" years ago as a SoBo thru-hiker on the Appalacian Trail, Jonah now favors the more local greenspace treasures that are right in the Atlanta area - - places that afford the feeling of the deep woods without the need for hours of travel. Members of the AOC are familiar with many of the trails in the book such as Sweetwater Creek, all of the CNRA trails, Stone Mt., and others.; however,  there are many trails that are less well known to the majority of our hiking members.  I've been scouting out some of these trails and posting them as events for the enjoyment of others.  I recently visited this North Beltline trail and found it to be very beautiful, affording a relaxing stroll with some captivating views of Tanyard Creek.  There are some fantastically large trees along the trail as well.

Second, this is a "No Excuses" hike because there are no excuses for NOT participating.  This is the perfect hike for absolute beginners who can't yet handle speed, distance, or elevation changes.  It's a flat, paved out-and-back path that we'll take at an extremely manageable pace.  You won't need hiking boots or poles . . .  just a comfortable pair of walking shoes.

We'll allow up to three dogs on this hike.  The Beltline rules require that dogs be kept on leash at all times, so if you register for this event, it's with the understanding that you will adhere to the rules. The reputation of the AOC is at stake when our members break the law during Club events.
