Itinerary:

What mysteries will we find as we pass through the tunnel on the George H Sparks reservoir at Sweetwater Creek State Park?  Perhaps we’ll see the American eagles that reside there (I saw one of them this past weekend).  Maybe we’ll see the beavers working on their dam on Beaver Creek.  Perhaps we’ll get to enjoy seeing the many herons that call the reservoir their home.  No matter what we’ll see, this will be a great day to be out on the water.  You can bring your own kayak or canoe or choose to rent one for a few hours ($20.00 for 2 hours and includes paddles and lifejackets).  We’ll meet at the bait shop at 9:45 and be ready to launch at 10:00 AM.  If you bring your own boat, please remember that lifejackets are required to be worn at State Parks.

If you are renting, please plan on arriving early enough to rent your kayak or canoe.  They do have a good supply of rentals, but they are first come, first served.

The total cost of the event is $5.00 for the parking pass (which covers both parking spots) plus another $20 if you need a boat rental. We look forward to a great morning of paddling at Sweetwater with everyone!

Required Items to Bring:

$5.00 total for parking.  Also bring life jacket, kayak, raft, etc. or rent one at the lake office (cost to rent is $20.00 for 2 hours).   If you are bringing your own boat, please remember that lifejackets are required at all state parks.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Take I-20 west to exit 44 (Thornton Road). Make a left on Thornton Road (South) and then a right onto Blairs Bridge Road. Travel 2.1 miles to Mount Vernon Road and make a left. Drive about one mile to the park entrance and make a left just before the bridge - you'll see the sign for the bait shop and a small ranger shack.
