Itinerary:

Please join us for a guided walking tour of Historic Oakland Cemetery.

This will be a nice easy Sunday 1.5 hr stroll through the beautiful cemetery. The cemetery with its 48 acres of green space offers nice walkways, gardens and trees provides some tranquility and added beauty to our city.  The magnificent gardens at Oakland include a variety of trees, shrubs and flowers including Dogwoods, Camellia, Roses, Oak Trees and Magnolias.

The beautiful Victorian cemetery has impressive architecture, gorgeous stained glass mausoleums and bronze urns over 6 feet tall.

History will be all around us at we walk through the cemetery which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.  The history of Oakland Cemetery represents important milestones in Atlanta relating to our early builders, Civil War soldiers and Civil Rights pioneers.  Twenty seven Atlanta mayors, six Georgia governors as well as author Margaret Mitchell, golfer Bobby Jones and other notable figures rest there.

NOTE: The fee for this tour is $12 for adults, $6 for seniors and $6 for students.  The fee will be paid directly to Oakland Cemetery not the AOC. The fee supports restoration of the cemetery.  Fees are paid at the Visitors Center.   The Visitors Center is where we will meet and begin our tour promptly at 10:30.   Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to pay. There is only 1 cashier so there might be a line to pay.   Please bring a couple of extra bucks to tip the awesome guides that work so hard.  The trip leader will be happy to collect the tip to give to the guide at the end.

After we finish our tour please join us for lunch across the street at Six Feet Under.  This is an optional gathering at the restaurant for food and fun.

PARKING:  Free parking is available in the lot just outside the front gate or along Martin Luther King Jr Drive and Oakland Avenue.  Parking inside the gates is very limited.  If you do park inside the gates just pull your vehicle off to the right of any asphalt and to the side to allow other cars to pass.  Please be sure to lock your car and not leave valulables in view.
