Itinerary:
NOTE:

EACH CABIN HOLDS 6 PEOPLE. WE CAN FIT 8 INTO 1 IF WE NEED TO OR 10 MINIMUM FOR BOTH CABINS.

We will be traveling North to the Roan Mtns to experience the changing of the leaves (hopefully) and some spectacular views. Our trip will include 3 Balds with beathtaking views (according to others anyways)

This trip includes 3 peaks towards the Beyond 6000 program. Most hiking will be on the AT and there should be a trail to all locations, ie no bushwacking.

Friday afternoon we will leave Atlanta and travel 5 hours North to the Roan Mtn State Park. Here we will grab our Cabin(s) and settle in and enjoy each others company until everyone crashes.

The next day we have a short drive south to Carvers Gap where we will leave our cars and begin our hike.

We will start heading East crossing over Round Bald, Jane Bald and arriving at Grassy Ridge Bald our first 6,000' Peak (6,165'). These 3 Balds should offer great views. We will then return to Carvers Gap and head West along the AT. Roundtrip hike from Carvers Gap EAST to Grassy Ridge is only 4.2 miles.

Traveling WEST along the AT this time we head towards Roan High Knob (6,285'), our 2nd 6k Peak. After Roan High Knob we contiunue West along the AT until we come to Cloudland Historical Area where we turn South West and continue on to Roan High Bluff (6,267') our 3rd and final 6k Peak. There is an observation platform here where more veiws await us. After this we return to Carvers Gap.

Our hike WEST from Carvers Gap totals 6.8 miles giving the trip 11 miles total for the day.

SUNDAY:

There are some hiking trails in the park if anyone wants. We will plan Sunday that morning depending on how late we are up the night before. The only thing we have to do is drive 5 hours home.

NOTE:

There are additional things to do/see at the Cloudland Historical area. We can stop at this area on the WAY BACK from Roan High Bluff and explorer this area if people want.

LUNCH: We will determine a lunch spot based on time we get on trail and peoples hunger levels.

After completing our hike we will go back to our cabins for dinner and a relaxing evening.

CABIN FEATURES:

AAA cabins are situated in the woods of Roan Mountain State Park. Each cabin has a front porch with rocking chairs, fully outfitted kitchen, full bath with tub/shower, wood burning stove and gas/electric heat. Firewood, bedding and towels are provided by the park. Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
Carpool to Event Distance (round trip):560Mile(s)
Carpool Departure Time: 3:00 pm
Carpool Location:   Log in for location
Carpool Directions:   Log in for directions
Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $224.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
FUEL will be split amongst each vehicle UNLESS we determine to take 1 large vehicle for gas and other smaller cars for people only. If this ends up being the case we will add up all fuel and split it by everyone. This way the larger vehicle with gear will not be at a disadvantage.
