Itinerary:

Great weather, great scenery - who could ask for more?   Join us for a last minute backpacking adventure. This is great trip for beginners.

Starting at the parking lot of the Wallhalla Fish Hatchery, the East Fork Trail is an easy 2.5-mile hike along the north bank of the scenic, fast-moving East Fork of the Chattooga River. We will pass through the lush, East Fork Gorge into the Ellicott Rock Wilderness Area, which provides a backdrop for most of this trail. The trail meanders to a junction with the Chattooga River Trail. From here, we will find a great campsite.  Once we set up camp and gather firewood, we will hike to Ellicott Rock, which is 1.9 miles north on the Chattooga Trail.  Those who are tough enough can play in the very cold river. Fishing is also an option.

Backpacking distance is approximately 5 miles round trip.  Hiking distance to Ellicott Rock is approximately 3.8 miles round trip.
