Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Panthertown Valley is a great place to spend a weekend wandering around. There are many waterfalls and rocky overlooks to explore. This trip is a bit unlike most in that we will have a short roughly 2 mile walk in to a campsite which will be a basecamp for the weekend.

Once we get to camp it will be a lot less structured with everyone free to do what interests them whether that is lazing around in camp or non-stop hiking.  Your trip leader will likely do multiple D5ish hikes that may include areas of overgrown trail or walking through rivers for significant amounts of time(> 1 mile). Additionally the trip leader has only been to roughly half of the places that they want to visit on this trip so there is an exploratory nature to parts of this trip.  You may choose to do some or all of my side excursions. I can also give some suggestions for shorter trips if you like.

If the weather is nice you will likely want to bring clothes that you can get wet in at the falls and swimming holes spread through the area.

If you want to go off on your own this map: https://panthertown.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/panthertownlatest_june22_0911x17_usemap.pdf provides the main trails that will get you around. There is also a better map with all of the trails http://panthertown.org/2010/04/03/recommended-map/ but it is a bit trickier to obtain.

I will allow up to 2 well behaved dogs on the trip.

On Monday we will break camp no later than 8am and head back to Atlanta. This is to allow people to spend two full days enjoying the outdoors but still provide time to get back to Atlanta for Memorial Day BBQs with friends and family that are less outdoorsy. The goal is to be back by noon on Monday.
