Itinerary:

This in-and-out day hike will have us starting at Rock Gap, hike south about 6 miles on the AT for a great view from the lookout tower on top of Albert Mountain (5250 ft). Hopefully the lookout tower deck will be unlocked but you never know. We will have lunch at the top of Albert Mountain. It might be 1pm so bring snacks. We will retrace our steps back to the Rock Gap trailhead.

Finally, we will take the Wasilik Poplar side trail to the Wasilik Poplar Tree. Before it died it was 135 feet tall. It still has a massive 8.4 foot diameter base and worth checking out. This side trail is very pretty and hopefully some flowers will still be in bloom. The side trail is 1.4 miles round trip.

Most of the hiking is not very steep so we will easily average 3 mph moving speed with very few stops.

Total miles will be about 13 miles. Elevation gain will be about 2500 feet.

I will allow two well behaved dogs.

The carpoolers can decide among themselves if they want to stop for dinner or just yummy ice cream at a local dairy farm.

It will probably be hot and muggy so bring at least 2L of water but I recommend 3L.

Bring rain gear. We will hike if there is a chance of rain. More than likely it will be a summer shower.
