This is a trip I have wanted to do for a long long time and finally with Pete's help I have the opportunity. It was born out of my experiences on BRAG, my love of AOC camping, and the over-ambitious idea of riding the entire Silver Comet trail (which is NOT what we're attempting here). This will be a great way to get some exercise, see some Silver Comet landmarks, and enjoy some great food all in the company of friends. We'll meet at the Silver Comet Depot trailhead, load our camping gear into the truck, and be off. The total distance to The Rock campground is about 32 miles. Along the way we will see Silver Comet landmarks such as the Pumpkinville Trestle and the Brushy Mountain Tunnel. A word on the mileage: We will tailor the trip to the unique abilities of the group. We are counting on mostly beginners, so do not feel intimidated by the distance. We will keep a slow pace and take frequent breaks for rest and pictures. Plus the Silver Comet is built on old railway beds, so it is almost completely flat. On the other hand if the group is mostly comprised of experienced riders then we will certainly up the pace accordingly. Or if there is an even mix of beginners and advanced riders then we will have the flexibility to split into two groups. In a nutshell, whatever your level of experience is please join us! Once at The Rock campground we will unload and setup camp. After lunch there will be an optional ride to the Rockmart Riverwalk where you can take a dip in the river or have an espresso. That night we will cookout with grillmaster Pete. While there will be a planned menu, you are welcome to bring food to put on the grill. In the morning we will have breakfast then load the truck and ride back to the Silver Comet Depot trailhead. If the trip is FULL then definitely join the wait list. We will add you to the trip. The campground will hold up to 100 people. Also those interested in camping without biking are welcome. Please just email us to let us know. | |||||||

Notes: | |||||||
Notes about dogs: They are allowed at the campsite but it's up to you to get them there. You can have your friend or significant other bring them (you don't have to bike to join us) or I've seen some pretty interesting rigs for dogs on bikes. Dogs will NOT be allowed in the equipment transport vehicle! Also note that all dogs must be well-behaved and friendly toward people and other dogs. No females in heat obviously. They must be on a leash at all times according to campground rules.
