Itinerary:

Join me for a hike at Sweetwater creek. We will start off on the white trail which is rated as moderate to difficult. The trail winds through several lovely stream coves and follows the ridges overlooking Sweetwater Creek. At around 4 miles we will hop onto the red trail which will take us to the impressive five-story New Manchester mill ruins alongside the white-water rapids of Sweetwater Creek. New Manchester was a mid-nineteenth century mill town which met its demise during the Civil War.

We will then move onto the yellow trail which passes through some of the most beautiful hardwood forests in the park. As the trail descends through the ravine on the south side of the loop we will look for the large rock overhang on the left. Archaeologists estimate that Native Americans used this as shelter for several thousand years.

After the hike we'll spend a few minutes in the the award-winning visitor center -one of the most environmentally responsible buildings in the country - which features exhibits on the area’s history, wildlife displays, trail maps, snacks and a gift shop.

The miles for this hike should be 8 miles or less. We will walk at a moderate to fast pace ensuring a good workout while allowing and a few odd stops for pictures and rest breaks.

There is a 5$ parking fee unless you have a state park pass. Please arrive a 5-10 minutes early to check-in and to make introductions.
