Itinerary:

Join Chris and myself on a backpacking adventure over Labor Day weekend. We are heading to Savage Gulf near Beersheba Springs, TN.

This is a really cool area to explore and is part of the South Cumberland Recreation area. We'll be hiking in from the west side, which is the Savage Gulf Ranger station and camping at Alum Gap. The Big Creek Rim trail (hiking in) is is a little over 4 miles and considered an easy to moderate trail. Once we get to camp and set-up, we can take off on a short 1.4 mile hike to Greeter Falls. The water levels are still struggling because of the drought, but there is still water in the deep swimming hole. This will also be our closest water source to camp.

On Sunday, we'll hike the Big Creek Gulf trail back over to Stone Door with a stop to Ranger Falls along the way. It's probably dry, but we'll have to check it out and see for ourselfs. Estimated hiking on Sunday will be roughly 8 miles. We can also head back to Greeter falls for some playtime and to fill up with water before settling in at camp for the evening, that is optional. Some may want to go and some may want to hang out at camp.

Monday is Labor Day, so we'll be packing up and heading home. The hike out will be on one of two trails we've already hiked. Either the 2.9 mile Laurel Loop trail or Big Creek Rim trail, which is a little over 4 miles, but nothing stenuous.

Dogs are allowed, but they must be kept on a leash at all times. They are also the owners responsibility. Please let me know if you are bringing a dog as well. I'm bringing my small beagle, but will more than likely be carrying him on day two because of mileage and rocky terrain in the Gulf area.
