Summary: Join us for a hike followed by the movie, A Walk in the Woods, based on the novel written by Bill Bryson. We will do a short hike at Leita Thompson Memorial Park then drive 1.6 miles to the Movie Tavern at Sandy Plains Village for lunch and a show.

Movie Info: Buy your tickets in advance, online or in person at the theater. http://www.movietavern.com/locations/sandy-plains-village/

Choose the movie showing at 12:10 pm. Reserve your seat with ticket purchase. Joyce and I have seats E6 & E5.

Hike Info: At 10:00 am we will meet behind the Pavilion at the Leita Thompson Memorial Gardens. We will hike one loop, 2.25 miles, of the smooth gravel trail. There is a Porta-Potty in parking area.

From the Park to the Theater: Leaving the park turn right and travel 1.6 miles to the Mabry Rd intersection. Turn left and then right to enter the Sandy Plains Village. You'll see Walmart and Movie Tavern on the shopping center sign. Continue through the parking lot toward the other end. Movie Tavern is in the middle of the strip center.

How to Get There:

Event Directions:

From Atlanta take GA-400 N to exit 7B W/Holcomb Bridge Rd in Roswell. Continue west on Holcomb Bridge Rd and its "extensions" for 5.7 miles (GA-140 West, then GA-92 West after "Holcomb Bridge" crosses GA-9/120). Leita Thompson Memorial Garden is on the right side of the road. (En route, just before you reach the correct turn you will pass a Chick-fil-A, Mountain Park Rd, a "dog park" and "Art Center West.") Take the next right where the sign says "Leita Thompson Memorial Garden" and continue to the parking lot in back.

There is an overflow parking lot if not enough parking is available behind the pavillion. As you head back toward Hwy 92/Woodstock Hwy, see the signs on your left that read "Overflow Parking" and "One Way." Enter this gravel road, park and back track down to the parking lot.

There is no fee to park.
