Itinerary:
I'm going to see if there's any interest in hiking on Fridays. We値l start the hike at the Byron Herbert Reece Trail head and hike .7 miles to the Gap and pick up the Freeman Trail which goes around Blood Mountain following the contour of the mountain to Bird Gap. From Bird Gap we値l turn right on the Appalachian Trail and start the final part of the climb to the summit of Blood Mountain (Ga.痴 highest point on the AT) We値l take plenty of time to explore the summit, take lots of pictures and enjoy the views. We値l resume by following the AT north to Neels Gap and visit the Walasi-Yi Center. You値l have a chance to pick up AT souvenirs. Their gift shop is pretty cool. From the Center, we値l follow the road north about .5 miles back to our parking lot.

We値l be hiking at a casual pace and taking plenty of time to enjoy the views. The distance on this hike qualifies it as a D3, but the elevation change and the rocky trail bumps it up to D4. If you like leisurely paced hikes with awesome views, this is the one!

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $54.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:
I'm anticipating that there might not be a huge demand for a Friday Hike. If we get tons of interest, we can open the event up to more participants. I'm planning to drive my car and can comfortably hold 5 plus gear.
