Itinerary: | |||||||
Please read the entire page before registering for this event. We will maintain an average pace of around 3 miles per hour. We will keep the group together and regroup at intersections. This is not going to be a fast hike, but you should be able to maintain an average pace of 3 miles per hour. The total distance is around 10 miles, with a total elevation gain of around 2,200 feet. For carpooling, we will leave Mansell Park & Ride by 7:45 AM. We will gather at the Top of The Falls parking around 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM (parking at the park costs $5 per car, or you can use your Georgia State Parks annual pass). We will have a few minutes to get ready for the hike and use the bathrooms if needed, and then do the introductions and start the hike. For the first part of the hike, we will take the Appalachian Approach Trail until we get to the intersection with the Hike Inn Trail. Most of the elevation gain will be in this first part. We will take the Hike Inn Trail to the Len Foote Hike Inn. After reaching the Hike Inn, we will enjoy a light lunch or snack (whatever you pack). Sometimes the Hike Inn has pie, cake and coffee available. If you chose to indulge, then bring cash to put in the donation box in the cafeteria. Plan to pack out your own trash. After spending about 20 minutes in the Hike Inn, we will then start the second part of the hike, taking the Hike Inn Trail back to the parking lot. After the hike, those who are interested can take a short walk to the Falls Overlook to view the falls from the top, but make sure you coordinate this with your driver. | |||||||
