PHOTOGRAPHY and hiking trip. We'll visit Indian Falls, Lost Falls, Laurel Falls in Desoto State park, and Little River Falls in the Little River Canyon - the largest canyon east of the Mississippi. Who knew the Grand Canyon of the East was 120 miles away in NE Alabama? We'll take plenty of time and let everyone pretend they're Ansel (or Anselette) Adams. We'll spend most of the time at Little River Falls in Little River Canyon. I know a great "swimming hole" with a cliff and rope swing for the "Brave Souls". There are trails and you can explore the canyon area from the swimming area up to the base of the falls. Lots of surprises will "favor the prepared mind."

Required Items to Bring:
Camera, water, lunch. Extra dry clothes.

Extra Lenses, back up batteries, extra memory, a tripod, swim suit, camera bag, etc. If you have good photography equipment, this is the time to show it off.

How to Get There:

I-75 north, left on Ga 20. Twist and turn and merge and follow Ga 20 all the way through Rome and head towards the Alabama state line. Ga 20 turns into Al hwy 9. A few miles after crossing the state line, turn right on Al 35. Go several miles on 35 and go up Lookout Mountain. The parking lot is just before the Little River Falls on the left between Mile Markers 13 and 14. If you cross the bridge, you've gone too far.

GPS DIRECTIONS: Use Blanche Alabama for city center. It should direct you to AL Hwy 35. The Falls are a few miles north of Blanche. An alternate address I found that will get you a few miles away from the Parking lot is 699 Al Hwy 35 in Blanche, AL. Al Hwy 35 and County Road 103 (aka Crest Road) is the nearest intersection South of the Falls. Google shows directions to Little River Falls when mapped. These Points should get you close to the Little River Falls.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $96.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
